Overview
There is no CradlePoint router which went from inception to market as quickly as the E100. It came to being as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The E100 along with a Branch model of the 600C has created the SOHO NetCloud Services of the Branch Market Segment. The E100 is designed for the 'mission critical' worker to work from anywhere. CradlePoint designed this unit which can work as a wireless WAN, separate from any other users also working or learning from home. However, it can work with a Wired WAN interface with the LTE connection as backup.
The E100 is only available with a combination of Branch NetCloud Essentials + NetCloud Advanced. As a result of this, the following services are available:
- Secure Connection via VPN or internet
- Application firewall
- Unified Threat Management
- Remote Connect (online troubleshooting)
- LAN Management of 3rd Party devices sitting behind the CradlePoint
- Application QoS
The E100 can be purchased with a SIM (Verizon, ATT or T-Mobile) installed. With Zero-touch deployment, the unit can be sent to a user and all that has to be done is to plug the unit in. As long as there is a data plan associated with the SIM card provided, the unit will function immediately. There is no additional charge for the SIM or the insertion of the SIM.
Modem
The E100 comes with a Cat 4 modem, 150Mbps/50Mbps. This isn't the fastest modem available. However, it is sufficient for a single user, the target market for the E100. The E100 cannot be expanded with an additional modem.
The E100 is not capable of 5G transmission.
Ports
The E100 has 5 GbE ports. Each of these are LAN/WAN switchable. This contrasts to the IBR600C which has only 2 ports, 1 GbE and 1 FE (Fast Ethernet 100 MbE).
WIFI
Unlike the 600C which is being offered as a SOHO Branch Device, the E100 operates with 2 WiFi bands, 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz. It uses WiFi 5.
The WiFi antennas are internal.
Physical
The E100 is almost the same size as the E300. It is 5.3 x 10.6 x 1.9 in. I has a plastic casing and weighs 1 lb, 8 oz.
The E100 can operate with up to 2 optional batteries. These batteries provide power in case of a power failure. Each battery is estimated to provide 8 hours of power.
The E100 comes with a power supply and 2 LTE antennas.
Passive GPS is available on this unit.
Batteries
The optional battery pack provides backup for the E100 router in the event AC power is lost. Under optimal conditions, a single battery pack can provide up to 8 hours of battery run time. The E100 supports up to two optional batteries and includes two battery doors to accommodate both. The battery in the side with the SIM slots is considered the primary.
Installing a battery is optional and not required for use. The E100 router will still operate without an installed battery so long as it is connected to an appropriate power source.
The batteries are installed in the side of the casing behind battery doors.
